Bad weather is approaching, and you have an important investment to protect. Your swimming pool. No need to panic, by taking the steps below you should be able to prevent or minimize damage to your swimming pool.
1.Turn off the power to your pool
At your pool’s main circuit breakers turn off power to your pumps, heaters and lights.
2.Protect the equipment
Take a few minutes and cover pumps and heaters with tarps or other waterproof materials. Inspect the area for any potential threats like dangling branches and remove as many as possible.
3.Tidy up
Deck chairs, toys, garden lights should all be cleaned up and moved to a safe place. In a hurricane all these items have the potential to become projectiles.
4. Add Chlorine
Heavy rain will add to your swimming pool’s water levels. Shock your pool prior to the hurricane to account for this effect.
5.Don’t cover your swimming pool
With everything flying around, your pool cover could easily be damaged. Instead, leave your pool open and skim out the debris after the storm passes.
After the storm, you will have some work to do. Start by cleaning the area around the pool and removing tarps and coverings. Next, skim out debris from the swimming pool. Turn on power to your pool equipment. After letting the water circulate, you will need to check the levels and adjust as needed.
